The Godfather (1972)
The Godfather is believed to be the second best film in American cinematic history behind Citizen Kane on the AFIs hundred Years. This academy award winning crime based movie was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starred by Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, James Cann and Robert Duvall. This story of this movie begins as the New York Mafia’s “Don” Vito Corleone watches over his daughter’s wedding. Vito lives his life in the way of the old country, however times change and some of his colleagues do not want to follow his way of living. An upcoming enemy of Vito’s family wants to begin a business of selling drugs in the state of New York and for this purpose needs the Don’s influence. The clash of Don’s fading old world principles and the latest methods demand an appalling price particularly from Michael who is the youngest son of Don Vito’s family. Disaster strikes the Mafia family when Don Vito is shot down by Virgil Sollozzo the drug dealer. This leads Michael the youngest son of the family to start a violent war against the drug dealer who tears the Mafia family apart. Gangster movies are among the best selling old movie genres such as Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney and Edward Robinson, prevailing as a significant force in the early 30’s. The enthralling and rich movie is characterized by excellent acting, fantastic choreography, beautiful photography, romantic sub-plot and bright exterior scenes all are the part of the beautiful cinematography work by Gordon Willis.
